It was all happening in central Bristol on 22 September. As well as a large anti-war protest and the BCC bike ride, there was the Streets Alive! festival taking place in Queen Square and the Market area.
Apart from Baldwin Street, all the streets were closed to motor traffic and various activities such as poetry, music, skateboarding, wood-turning and generally sitting about and chatting took place. Avon Wildlife Group transformed Small Street into a green- carpeted oasis while Bristol Friends of the Earth's special comfy chair squadron filled St. Nicholas street with armchairs, settees and a string quartet.
Meanwhile in Queen Square, bands played, stilt-walkers strutted and people bounced up and down on long, dangly things. A great day, let's hope this festival is here to stay.
