BCC Tenth Birthday Party Ceilidh

BCC is 10 years old!

To celebrate our first decade of campaigning for cyclists and a sane transport system in Bristol, we decided to have a good knees-up at the Jacob Wells Dance Centre. Snapdragon provided the music, and the hall was full of sweaty people stripping the willow, promenading and doe-ce-doeing!

In the lobby we had a display of campaigns and events in our history: King Canute holding back the tide of traffic on the M32; Critical Mass rides; the anti-speed campaign; our subvertising efforts such as pedestrian power; National Bike Week; and anti-road campaigns.

Our social and leisure side was also on display with social rides, picnics, holidays and social meetings. Lots of people were interested in the organisation and hopefully new members will join.

After the raffle, an enormous BCC birthday cake was wheeled in, everyone sang Happy Birthday to You and some cyclist children blew out the candles.

Thanks to Catweazel for the wonderful cake which fed a multitude of hungry dancers, and to the staff at the Dance Centre who made us very welcome. Thank you to all those who organised a very enjoyable celebration and to everyone who came along to support it.
